If a peptide has 98% purity, what makes up the other 2%?

Peptide purity, as measured by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), indicates the percentage of the product that consists of the correct, full-length amino acid sequence. The remaining percentage typically consists of minor impurities, such as shorter or incomplete peptide fragments that did not form correctly during the synthesis process.
